A charming toy flower making kit featuring snowball hydrangea, apple blossom, and cherry blossom, produced in Bavaria around 1900.
Paper flower making was, throughout the 19th-century, a popular activity for girls and women. This set is housed in its original box and includes tissue flower petals in several sizes in white, pale pink (which has faded a little), and pale green, along with leaves, stamens and pistils, and wire. A small number of the petals have been arranged together on a piece of wire, but the majority have been left in their original state. The manufacturer, W&S of Bavaria, does not appear frequently in the historical record, but a similar set to this one, number 1521, can be seen in the reference work Papertoys by P. J. Buijnsters.

Bavaria, Germany: W&S, [c. 1900].
Paper flower kit, including tissue flowers in white, pale pink, and pale green, leaves, stamens and pistils, stems, and wire. Housed together in the original card box with attractive, colour paste-ons. Some wear and dulling of the box lid, which has been repaired on one side, mild dampstain affecting the base. A few of the paper flowers have been put together with wire but the majority are in their original condition, save that the pink flowers have faded a little. There are fewer cherry blossoms than the other styles, and some of these may be missing.
