    Dr. Charles R. Gibson (1870-1931) of Glasgow was a prolific author of popular science books aimed at children. The son of a curtain manufacturer, he inherited the family firm in 1900 and was able to indulge his love of science, being elected to the Royal Society of Edinburg in 1910. He is best known for his contributions to the “Romance of...” series — including volumes on electricity, manufacturing, and scientific discovery.

    Octavo (192 x 127 mm). Contemporary red calf prize binding, spine elaborately gilt in compartments, brown morocco label, decorative roll to boards, turn-ins and Market Harborough County Grammar School roundel to the upper board gilt, marbled endpapers and edges. Frontispiece and 23 plates, steel engravings within the text. Prize bookplate awarded to Alfred Neal Jesson dated 1909, bookplate of Peter Beaumont Flegg to the front free endpaper. Binding a little rubbed and scuffed with some minor bumps to the corners, spine very slightly rolled, occasional light spots to contents. Very good condition.
