La Navigation Aérienne

  • First edition, first impression of this attractive illustrated work on the history of aeronautics, including ballooning and early, experimental fixed-wing planes.

Author Joseph Lecornu (1861-1934) earned an engineering degree in 1888 and took a gold medal for kite flying during the 1900 Olympics in Paris, though it remains unclear whether the competition was one of the official events or a demonstration sport.

  • ...Histoire Documentaire et Anecdotique. Les Précurseurs les Montgolfier les Deux Écoles le Siège de Paris les Grands Dirigeables et le Sport Aérien. Paris: Nony & Cie, 1903.

Large octavo. Original green cloth elaborately blocked in gilt and black, grey and maroon patterned endpapers, all edges gilt. 4 page publisher’s ads at rear. Vignette title and illustrations throughout the text. Cloth lightly rubbed and bumped at the extremities, small repaired abrasion to the front endpapers, contents tanned in the margins. A very good copy.
